Text Box: ILMS Small Grants Program
Text Box: In conjunction with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, ILMS offers small grants to organizations for projects too small for the usual grant channels. Project submission is simple and the response time is short.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Project Examples:

Landowner workshop – teach how to prevent polluted runoff from yards

Watershed management plan – develop a plan to identify runoff hotspots and fix them.

Monitoring – measure pollutants in lakes and streams during wet weather

Fix a problem – restore a wetland or eroded shoreline

Create a video – develop a slide show or video that can teach good land management

Applying for a Grant:  ILMS makes grant determinations quarterly on an ongoing basis throughout the year.  Grant seekers should use a paper application form provided by ILMS. CLICK HERE to E-mail us for an application.

The Geographic Area We Serve:  ILMS serves all lakes and watersheds in Indiana.

Funding:  This is a small grants program.  The grants will be approximately $2000, with a maximum of $5000 available.  ILMS may fund 75% of the cost of the project.  A 25% local match is required.  Broad based support and multiple partners will be looked upon favorably in the review process.

Project Criteria:  Proposed projects must directly improve, enhance, protect or preserve water quality.  Eligible activities and programs that are part of a larger enhancement project will also be considered.  Examples might include but are not limited to water quality education, wetland projects, habitat improvements or filter strips.  Here are some examples used in other states:

All applications are reviewed initially by a grant coordinator and presented to the ILMS Board of Directors and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for final approval.

1. Projects must be completed within 12 months from the date of approval.

2. Projects directly on private lakes cannot be funded with this grant.  However, projects on tributaries draining into these lakes may be eligible.

3. ILMS grants cannot be used as the local match for a larger grant funded project
